Your handwoven textiles are crafted to last generations. Proper care ensures they retain their beauty, colour, and drape for years to come.

Essentials

General Care Tips

First Wash

Some natural dyes may release colour in the first wash. Wash separately or with like colours for the first 2–3 washes.

Stain Treatment

Treat stains immediately. Blot (don't rub) with cold water and a mild detergent. For stubborn stains, take to a professional cleaner.

Storage

Store textiles in a cool, dry place. Use silica gel sachets to absorb moisture. Add neem leaves or dried lavender to deter insects naturally.

Seasonal Airing

Air out stored textiles every 3–4 months. Refold along different lines to prevent permanent creases in heavy fabrics.

Avoid

Never use bleach on coloured or handwoven fabrics. Avoid tumble drying, direct sunlight for extended periods, and metal hangers that can rust.

Ironing

Always iron on the reverse side. Use a pressing cloth for delicate fabrics. A steamer is a gentler alternative for most textiles.

Fabric Care Guides

Silk Sarees & Fabrics

Always dry clean pure silk sarees, especially those with zari or heavy embroidery.
If hand-washing, use cold water with a mild silk-specific detergent. Never wring or twist.
Dry in shade on a flat surface or padded hanger — never in direct sunlight.
Iron on the reverse side at a low temperature with a pressing cloth.
Store in soft muslin or cotton cloth. Avoid plastic bags as they trap moisture.
Refold along different crease lines every few months to prevent permanent fold marks.

Cotton & Cotton Blends

Hand-wash in cold or lukewarm water with mild detergent. Machine-wash on a gentle cycle.
Turn garments inside out before washing to preserve colour and prints.
Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals — use a mild stain remover for spot treatment.
Line-dry in shade. Cotton tends to shrink slightly on the first wash.
Iron while slightly damp for best results. Use medium heat.
Store in a clean, dry place. Cotton breathes well and does not require special storage.

Chiffon & Georgette

Dry clean recommended, especially for embellished pieces.
If hand-washing, soak briefly in cold water with gentle detergent. Do not scrub.
Roll in a towel to remove excess water — never wring.
Hang to dry on a padded hanger away from sunlight.
Iron on the lowest setting or use a steamer to remove wrinkles.
Store on hangers or rolled (not folded) to prevent creasing.

Embroidered & Embellished

Always dry clean to protect embroidery, sequins, beadwork, and zari.
Store with tissue paper between folds to cushion embellishments.
Avoid spraying perfume directly on embroidered areas.
Iron on the reverse side only, using a pressing cloth and low heat.
Keep away from velcro, rough jewellery, or anything that can snag threads.
For heirloom pieces, consider professional preservation wrapping.
